On October 5th, 2025, at Hops Gallery, I had the pleasure of hosting a special course for parents and grandparents called “Safe on the Net” – a relaxed yet essential discussion about how we can all navigate the digital world safely, no matter our age.
The event was organized in a friendly and informal setting, in the true OpenHub spirit, where participants could ask questions, share experiences, and learn through practical examples how to protect themselves from online traps.
About the course
“Safe on the Net” is an interactive workshop designed for those who want to better understand how the internet really works behind the screen.
We talked about:
- how to spot fake news and deceptive messages;
- what phishing and online scams are;
- how to prevent identity theft and unauthorized access to personal accounts;
- how to create strong passwords and use two-factor authentication;
- what to do when receiving suspicious messages on the phone or on social media.
Everything was explained in simple language, using real-life examples, without complicated tech jargon. The goal was for each participant to leave with practical tools they can easily apply to protect themselves and their loved ones online.
A relaxed atmosphere — and a good craft beer
Because learning works best in a relaxed environment, we chose Hops Gallery as our venue — a local space where good ideas and community spirit meet over a pint of craft beer and authentic conversations.
Participants were encouraged to share their own experiences with technology and online safety, and the discussion quickly turned into an open, honest dialogue about the challenges of our modern digital world.
About the initiative
This course is part of a broader initiative by the OpenHub Creative Cluster to bring digital education closer to people, through non-formal and accessible learning experiences.
In a time when technology is evolving faster than ever, we believe that digital safety should become a basic skill for everyone, regardless of age.
