On February 29, 2024, the OpenHub community, alongside international partners, marked the closing event of the ReGreen VR project, an innovative initiative that demonstrated how virtual reality (VR) technology can be used for environmental education and the green transition.
Looking Back at the ReGreen VR Project
Over the past year, ReGreen VR aimed to develop immersive educational experiences to raise awareness about environmental protection. Through virtual reality, participants explored ecosystems affected by pollution, deforestation, and climate change, gaining firsthand experience of the impact of human actions on nature.
The collaboration between OpenHub (Romania) and VRINN Immersive Learning Cluster (Norway) played a crucial role in the project’s success, facilitating knowledge exchange and the implementation of best practices in technology-driven education.

The Closing Event: Key Takeaways and Future Perspectives
The final event brought together educators, technology specialists, environmental NGO representatives, and policymakers to discuss the project’s outcomes and its impact on the educational community.
- Vlad Ionuț (OpenHub, Romania) presented the project’s achievements and how VR was integrated into the educational process, offering concrete examples of its application.
- Damian Constantin (OpenHub, Romania) presented the technical and creative process that the scenarios went through.
- Keith Mellingen (VRINN, Norway) highlighted the importance of international collaboration and how the project can serve as a model for similar initiatives.
- Discussions and conclusions: Participants explored opportunities to expand the project and discussed future partnerships to support environmental education through technology.
What’s Next?
Although the ReGreen VR project has officially concluded, OpenHub and its partners plan to continue developing educational resources based on VR. The platform created during the project will remain accessible, and new initiatives will be launched to bring technology even closer to schools and educational institutions.
ReGreen VR is not just a completed project—it’s the beginning of a transformation in ecological education through virtual reality! 🌍🌱💡
The ReGreen VR project is funded by the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2014-2021, under the Call for Bilateral Relations.
