On Friday, December 15, the ‘Danubius’ University in Galați hosted the event ‘Danube Polis – Romania’s first Danubian metropolis’, a conference organized by the European Association ‘Danube’ and initiated by Iulian Zamfir, the president of UGIR Brăila. Openhub actively participated in this event, demonstrating its continuous commitment to innovation and urban development.
‘Danube Polis’ is envisioned as the city of the future, a revolutionary concept that encompasses various urban areas: from business centers and universities to medical, tourist, and residential zones. This initiative aims to transform the region between Brăila and Galați into a smart city, stimulating sustainable development and creating new standards of living quality.
The conference gathered a wide range of participants, including representatives of civil society, local administration, business people, and academic staff. OpenHub, with its expertise in technology and development, played a crucial role in discussions on how this ambitious project can boost regional competitiveness and bring a new breath to the Lower Danube area.
After the initial meetings in 2016 and a pause imposed by the pandemic, the 2022 conference marked a new beginning for the project. Coinciding with International Danube Day, discussions focused on the future of metropolitan development and how ‘Danube Polis’ can become a model in smart city initiatives.
Openhub contributed valuable perspectives on emerging technologies and their role in creating a smart city. It also facilitated discussions on possible national and international partnerships, essential for the success of the project.
